Besides tons of positive aspects of being a mom, there are also some of these days that have already started badly…

It’s the worst feeling when your alarm barely went off and you hear the pitter-patter of little feet running…

Kids are already wide awake, the baby crying for the morning bottle, and you haven’t even had a sip of coffee yet. By the time you got everyone dressed, fed, and out the door, you felt like you had already run a marathon. I’m not exaggerating…

Yes, moms or dads do have real superpowers to manage all of this.

But let’s be real—superpowers or not, there are days when even the best of us feel overwhelmed. It’s not just the early wake-ups or the endless to-do lists; it’s the feeling of already starting your day behind. Those chaotic mornings can set a “stressed mind” for the entire day. That’s why creating a morning routine that works for you is so important. It can turn those tough starts into something much more manageable and create an overall easier life.

So, let’s dive right into it.

Here’s: How to create a Productive Morning Routine for Busy Moms.

First of all, there’s no perfect morning routine that matches everyone. You have to create one based on your daily life, what age your kids are, whether or not you work from home, and many other things that aren’t the same for most people.

That’s why this post will guide you in creating a structured morning routine that can help reduce the daily chaos, minimize stress, and boost productivity.

To get started, consider read questions and write down your answers:

  1. What daily habits do I want to add to my morning routine?
  2. What time do I wake up generally, on weekdays, and does this time change on weekends?
  3. How should my routine adjust for special occasions, weekends, birthdays, or holidays?
  4. What are my biggest challenges in the morning, and how can I address them?

Don’t worry if you can’t find an answer for all of the questions. You’ll get Ideas soon, I promise 🙂

Morning Habits

The things on your daily list, that should be set are your habits. It’s very important to develop good morning habits. Here are some examples that you could integrate, that don’t take long.

5-10 mins of Yoga/Meditation or Morning Stretch:

Trust me this is a must, especially if you’re going to sit for a long time each day. Stretching can Improve your Flexibility and Posture and it helps to start the day with a clear mind.

Making the Bed:

It sounds incredibly basic, but most people actually don’t do it. Depending on how many pillows you stuffed on your bed (I just love pillows) it should only take you a couple of seconds to do and it has the effect of getting something done, also opening your mind for being more productive throughout the day.

No Phone before you’re ready for the Day:

This means waking up, getting ready and really not even consider looking at any messages or social platforms. This saves sooo much time in the morning and makes you “crave” your phone a lot less throughout the day.

Planning your Day:

If you don’t like planning your day the evening before you shoul do it in the morning! There are various planning tools. I personally love Structured, an app for mobile or tablet & it’s free (not sponsored by the way) because it’s extremely easy and you can set things for certain days that repeat whenever you want (like every day, every second day, etc…).

Positive Self Affirmations:

This helps with whatever you’re trying to manifest or just set a more positive and open mindset for stressful days.

Chose The Best Wake Up Time For You

Selecting the right wake-up time is a crucial step ina productive morning routine. The ideal wake-up time can vary based on individual needs, lifestyle, and daily commitments. This is how to find the best wake-up time for you.

1. Assess Your Daily Schedule
  • Work or School Start Time: Consider when you need to be at work or your kids at school, and work backward to ensure you have enough time to prepare.
2. Calculate Your Preparation Time:
  • Morning Routine: Look at how long it takes to complete your morning activities, such as showering, dressing, having breakfast, and any personal time.
3. For how long should you sleep:
  • Recommended Sleep: Most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Identify how much sleep you need to feel rested and alert.
  • Adjust Based on Bedtime: If you go to bed at 10:00 PM, waking up at 6:00 AM would give you 8 hours of sleep.
4. Understand Your Body’s Rhythm:
  • Sleep Cycle: Being aware of your sleep cycles can help you wake up feeling more refreshed. Aim to wake up at the end of a sleep cycle rather than in the middle of one.

 Tip:

  • Use a sleep calculator or app to determine the best wake-up time based on your sleep cycles.
5. Factor in Flexibility and Consistency

Weekday vs. Weekend Schedule:

  • Consistency: Try to wake up at the same time every day, including weekends, to regulate your internal clock.

Allow for Flexibility:

  • Special Occasions: Be prepared to adjust your wake-up time for special events or unexpected changes while maintaining a consistent core routine.

How To Adress The Challenges:

1. Handling Interruptions

Plan for Flexibility:

  • Buffer Time: Build extra time into your morning routine (max 10 mins) to help with unexpected interruptions, like a child waking up earlier than planned or a last-minute issue.
  • Prioritize Tasks: Identify the most critical tasks that need to be completed and focus on those first. Other tasks can be postponed if needed.

Create Backup Plans:

  • Emergency Solutions: Have quick, alternative solutions ready for interruptions. For instance, keep a few easy-to-prepare breakfast options on hand if you’re running short on time.

Communicate with Family:

  • Set Expectations: Discuss the morning routine with family members and set expectations for their roles and responsibilities. This can help reduce the likelihood of disruptions.
2. Plan Specific things that could go wrong
Write down the most random things that could happen with any solutions that come to your mind. This can really help you in certain Situations.

Recap:

  • Choose the Perfect Wake-Up Time: Align your wake-up time with your daily life and natural sleep patterns.
  • Effective Habits: Focus on habits that enhance productivity, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
  • Address Common Challenges: Prepare for interruptions and special situations.
  • Maintain Flexibility and Balance: Regularly adjust and adjust your routine to ensure it continues to fit your lifestyle.

Remember, establishing a new routine takes time and patience. Be kind to yourself as you make these changes, and celebrate your progress along the way. Your mornings are a powerful opportunity to set the tone for a productive and fulfilling day. You got this!
